Deported Brown University Professor
RASHA ALAWIEH

Rasha Alawieh, a Lebanese assistant professor at Brown University, was deported from the United States after federal officials uncovered ties to Hezbollah events during her travel abroad. Alawieh, who was in the U.S. on an H-1B visa, was denied re-entry in March 2025 after attending the funeral of Hezbollah terror chief Hassan Nasrallah in Lebanon.
According to the U.S. Department of Defense, “sympathetic photos and videos” of Nasrallah, Iran’s supreme leader Ali Khamenei, and armed Hezbollah militants were discovered in the deleted items folder of her cell phone. Officials say the materials—some of which may have been emailed from her device—raised serious national security concerns and ultimately led to her deportation back to Lebanon.
